Previous to starting Firedyne Engineering, P.C., Mr. McGreal worked for two major Fire Protection Engineering engineering consulting firms, BOCA International, one of the world’s largest architectural/engineering firms (SOM), a large automatic sprinkler contractor and owned & managed a mechanical, electrical & plumbing consulting engineering company. Mr. McGreal has more than thirty-seven years of experience in Fire Protection Engineering & Code Consulting and is a Registered Professional Engineer in the states of Florida, Illinois, Michigan and Virginia. He holds the following ICC Certifications: (Master Code Professional, Certified Building Official, Certified Fire Marshal, Fire Code Specialist, Fire Inspector I & II, Fire Plans Examiner, Fire Prevention Inspector I & II (NFPC), Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner, Combination Plans Examiner, Commercial Combination Inspector, Building Code Official, Building Code Specialist, Building Plans Examiner, Building Inspector, Commercial Building Inspector, Residential Building Inspector, Mechanical Code Official, Mechanical Code Specialist, Mechanical Plans Examiner, Mechanical Inspector, Commercial Mechanical Inspector, Residential Mechanical Inspector, Electrical Plans Examiner, Commercial Electrical Inspector, Plumbing Code Official, Plumbing Code Specialist, Plumbing Plans Examiner, Plumbing Inspector, Commercial Plumbing Inspector, Residential Plumbing Inspector, Residential Energy Inspector/Plans Examiner, ICC/AACE Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector and Housing Code Official. Mr. McGreal has been a Principal Member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Technical Committee on Dry and Wet Chemical Extinguishing Systems (NFPA 17 & 17A) since 1996 and has also participated on SFPE’s Advanced Sprinkler Design Task Force and ICC’s C.B.O. Mentor Program. He was previously a Contributing Editor for various professional trade magazines, writing columns on various Fire Protection Engineering topics.
Mr. McGreal's educational background includes a Master of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection & Safety Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration Degree (with an Entrepreneurship Concentration) from DePaul University. He was the second person in the United States to receive both an undergraduate and graduate degree in Fire Protection Engineering.
Mr. McGreal is very active in a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the International Code Council (ICC).
