Previous to starting Firedyne Engineering, P.C., Mr. McGreal owned a mechanical, electrical & plumbing consulting engineering company and worked for two major Fire Protection Engineering consulting firms, BOCA International, Inc., one of the world’s largest architectural/engineering firms (SOM) and an automatic sprinkler contractor. Mr. McGreal has more than twenty-six years of experience in Fire Protection Engineering & Code Consulting and is a Registered Professional Engineer in the states of Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, New Mexico and Virginia. He holds the following ICC Certifications: (Master Code Professional, Certified Building Official, Certified Fire Marshal, Fire Inspector I & II, Fire Plans Examiner, Fire Prevention Inspector I & II (NFPC), Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner, Combination Plans Examiner, Commercial Combination Inspector, Building Code Official, Building Plans Examiner, Building Inspector, Commercial Building Inspector, Residential Building Inspector, Mechanical Code Official, Mechanical Plans Examiner, Mechanical Inspector, Commercial Mechanical Inspector, Residential Mechanical Inspector, Electrical Plans Examiner, Commercial Electrical Inspector, Plumbing Code Official, Plumbing Plans Examiner, Plumbing Inspector, Commercial Plumbing Inspector, Residential Plumbing Inspector, Residential Energy Inspector/Plans Examiner, Housing Code Official and Property Maintenance & Housing Inspector). Mr. McGreal has been a Principal Member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Technical Committee on Dry and Wet Chemical Extinguishing Systems (NFPA 17 & 17A) since 1996 and also participated on the ICC’s C.B.O. Mentor Program and SFPE’s Advanced Sprinkler Design Task Force. He was previously a Contributing Editor for various professional trade magazines, writing columns on various Fire Protection Engineering topics.
Mr. McGreal's educational background includes a Master of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection & Safety Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration Degree (with an Entrepreneurship Concentration) from DePaul University. He was the second person in the United States to receive both an undergraduate and graduate degree in the area of Fire Protection Engineering.
Mr. McGreal is very active in a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), International Code Council, Inc. (ICC), International Association of Fire investigators (IAAI) and the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI).
